• A Magical Place

Rarely do we return to a destination but we can’t wait to go back. We spent Christmas week at 4 Volcanoes with our adult children. We hiked, went horseback riding, visited markets, hot tubs daily, magnificently prepared food by Clever and Juanita. The house was absolutely perfect, comparable to a 5 star resort. Thomas and his family made us feel so welcomed. We experienced not only the beauty of Otavalo, but the culture and warmth of the people. We have a new family in Ecuador. There is no place like this on earth!!!

  • Absolutely amazing, a trip I will never forget

From exploring the nearby towns of San Pablo Del Lago, Otavalo, and Ibarra, to hiking to the top of the Imbabura volcano, to spending time at the beautiful 4VolcanosLodge with the Incredible Ring family, I have to say that my visit here was my absolute favorite experience through 6 months in South America. Even though I am not as confident in my ability to speak Spanish as I would like to be, Thomas, Christina, and the boys (Noah, Luca, and Elias) speak English as well as Spanish and German very well. The environment is peaceful, relaxing, and beautiful. Great place for travelers to just relax and enjoy or to spend as much time as desired exploring or interacting with the culture. Thank you very, very much to the Ring Family and I hope to see you again soon.

  • Stunning Villa!

Oh my God! This one-of-a-kind villa takes me back to my childhood days. This villa is absolutely stunning and gorgeous! It’s like a little piece of heaven in the middle of nowhere. I can stay at this place forever. My fiance and I will be coming back soon. Can’t wait!

  • Absolutely stunning!

We stayed at this property for three nights and it exceeded our expectations! The property itself is exactly as portrayed in the photographs and, if anything, is more beautiful in person. Thomas and Christina were wonderful hosts and our 8 year old son loved playing with their boys! We especially loved the hike with Leo and Luca to the secret waterfall! We loved sitting out on the patio, taking in the beautiful views of the lake and Imbabura volcano. The hot tub in the evening was so relaxing and everything in the home was extremely comfortable. We loved our stay here and will definitely be back!

  • Life In Slow Motion

4Volcanoes Lodge is a magical place. The house itself lends to total relaxation. What we wanted was an escape from the daily grind and we got it all here. Lots of reading. Lots of exploring. Lots of relaxing. A true place where you can turn it off. Thomas & Christina are excellent hosts with as much or as little interaction as wanted. The views are magnificent, the aura is natural and the trip, a memory to last a lifetime. Thank you for such a great place to stay while exploring the Ecuadorian Andes. P.S. We´ll be back with the kids!!

  • The most beautiful relaxing spot

We stayed for four nights with our two children ( 10 and 13) and from the moment we entered the gated property we knew we had found a gem. Our warm welcome from Thomas and Christina and their wonderful animals was exactly what we needed after a long journey. The cook made us dinner for our arrival and lit the fires and it truly felt like heaven! We truly did not want to leave the property but when we did the charming town of san Pablo is a 5 minute walk and here you can experience the culture, right outside your door. we did not rent a car and never felt that we needed one, the taxis are great and very cheap and buses run from right outside the house. Thomas was very kind too and offered us a ride if he was heading into town and knew we were thinking of going too. The owners had just rescued a three week old baby horse and our children had the experience of bottle feeding her and learning about horses which was something they will never forget. The house was incredibly comfortable and beautifully furnished and every possible amenity is there. the grounds are spectacular and the photos cannot even do it justice. I truly recommend staying here, you will be so glad that you did and we plan to return one day, hopefully soon and stay for even longer.

  • Exceeded our Expectations!

We have rented many wonderful homes around the world but none have met the standard of 4volcanoes. The home is even more beautiful than the pictures depict on the website. The location is ideal- within the village yet a private oasis containing the most spectacular gardens- all with a view of the surrounding volcanoes. Our hosts have thought of everything to ensure a comfortable stay – including a jar of their delicious homemade honey! We cannot say enough about this spectacular home and give it the highest recommendation.

We have been planning this reunion for years…but never did we expect that it would be such a dream come true! Our two week stay was made easy and so comfortable by our warm and super friendly hosts Christina, Thomas, and Noah, Luca, Elias their three beautiful kids. The house is well appointed and surrounding gardens are beautiful, the vistas breathtaking, the service staff was extremely efficient, friendly and warm as well. Aida, the chef made us delicious Ecuadorian dishes and kept the house spotless while Antonio tended to the beautiful gardens. We enjoyed, great and peaceful sleep in the beautiful bedrooms, warm fires in the living room, sunny and beautiful weather, hot Jacuzzis under the stars, great quiet walks in the garden, great horse riding at Zuleta, fun and friendly parties around the grill, excursions to buy fresh vegetables and incidentals in picturesque San Pablo, visited beautiful lakes and shopped for great crafts in nearby towns…and most of we all enjoyed the easy and comfortable karma of this stunning house. We fell in love… and will be back soon!

  • “An unforgettable weekend amongst the stars!”

I’m an Ecuadorian that has been living abroad, but when planning my wedding I wanted to come home. While our ceremony and reception would take place at a near-by Hacienda, we contacted 4Volcanoes so the immediate family could have some space and peacefulness on the days leading up to the wedding. This was the best decision we could have made!

As beautiful as the pictures of the lodge and area are they can’t fully capture the awe of this place. The design of the house deserves a review of it’s own–it’s rooftop views of snow-covered Cotacachi, wide windows, and labyrinth garden. We loved the serene feel of the villa in contrast to the chaotic movement in preparation down the street for the wedding. The night before the wedding we invited people over to relax from the week’s tours and planned a parillada (Ecuadorian BBQ) filled with singing, music, bonfire, canelazo (typical hot Ecuadorian drink), and a hike up Taita Imbabura. The owners, Christina and Thomas, organized every detail for us and offered some really good suggestions for making everyone feel at home. The atmosphere was so inviting and the food delicious, people who had only met a few days before were laughing and singing together. Everyone loved the food-Thomas meat impressed even the toughest critics in the group- the Brazilians!

  • “4 Volcanoes takes Feng Shui to another level!”

“We were two couples and a child and couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised when we arrived! The pictures don´t do the house justice, it is incredibly spacious and takes Feng Shui to another level! The kitchen is equipped with everything. We didn’t have much plans, but the hosts helped us plan our entire week with activities for kid and adults. This is an incredibly special place that we plan to return to!”

  • “Unbelievable views”

We knew when booking that the owners would be away, but had been in touch regarding transportation and other arrangements for our stay. We arrived after a long day of traveling and were not disappointed. Our ride from the airport was there- though it’s more like an hour+ depending on truck traffic-and upon entering the lodge it was better than the pictures. We immediately relaxed and for the next week had a home away from home. Many nights we just sat in front of the windows watching the sun set; each minute was a new awe inspiring vista. Christina had connected us with a cook, and drivers for tours and we were able to make the most of a too short week. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful; the resident animals (horses, dogs, cats, geese) well behaved! We loved Jack, the great dane and he is so smart after day 1 he never barked at us coming home, knowing we belonged there! Bus connections into Otavallo are right outside the gate, we walked into town for breakfast items; everything was totally convenient. If the Andes are your destination don’t hesitate booking four volcanoes!

  • Absolutely stunning retreat. Beautiful design, warm and welcoming hosts, incredible surroundings.

Arriving at 4 volcanoes lodge already leaves you breathless. Incredible nature and views, perfect climate for exploring the surroundings like markets, villages, hiking trips – always guided be Thomas, as local as it gets. The lodge is just amazing, perfect architecture in balance with nature and design. You enter and you feel comfortable! Especially when looking at the stars in the jacuzzi after a day of hiking. Don’t miss Juanita, the private chef and enjoy Ecuadorean cuisine, comfortably at home, being able to glance over the shoulder and stealing some recipes. After a busy 2 week trip throughout Galapagos and most of Ecuador, spending one week at 4 volcanoes lodge was truely the best decision ever!

  • “A world of endless summer”

It is a dream of light and air, on a stage of blue and green. Simply be, in a world of endless summer and fascinating culture. We had a great week with lots of adventure and action and will be back as soon as we can. All the best to you and thanks again for organizing the Galapagos cruise.

  • “Life in Ecuador”

4Volcanoes Lodge is a window into life in Ecuador; the daily rhythms of watching cows go to pasture in the morning and home at night, herded by farmers in their indigenous attire; local food lovingly prepared with a Ecuadorian flair by Juanita; watching Christina working with horses and children from the orphanage with a kind and gentle spirit; and Thomas, the “Indiana Jones” of San Pablo, bouncing daringly along mountain roads in his Defender, delivering guests to their daily activities. We will return. And soon.

  • “4 Volcanoes was an incredible place to stay!”

We spent a long weekend at 4 Volcanoes with two other families. There 12 in total -6 adults and 6 kids. We loved our stay at would highly highly highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway. The well-equipped kitchen was awesome for cooking and the huge dining table fit us all comfortably. We enjoyed our evenings by the fire or relaxing in the hot tub – mornings were great for sipping coffee while enjoying the 360 degree view of the spectacular mountains and countryside. What was best for us is that the kids were totally entertained. Free to run in the garden, soak in the tub or play in a fully stocked playroom they were totally content. Christiana and Thomas were awesome and helpful. We were fortunate (our kiddos) to have the opportunity to take a riding lesson with Christina; in fact, we are going to return soon to do another. We can’t wait to return to 4 Volcanoes soon!

  • “more than you could ask for…”

We have stayed at VRBO properties in a number of locations (Hawaii, Saba, the Canadian Rockies, etc.) and — without a doubt — 4Volcanoes is our new benchmark for excellence. The architecture of the house is immaculate (the perfect combination of open space and privacy) and its location is excellent for exploring the Northern Sierra. We did day trips to Intag (cloud forest, coffee), El Angel (high paramo), and hikes to the local volcanoes (Fuya Fuya and Mojanda Lakes are excellent for a simple afternoon, Imbabaru for a challenge, and Cotacachi for full-day endeavor). The owners- Christina and Thomas – are an invaluable source of information, and have taken care of many thoughtful details (prestocked drinks in the fridge, a care package of local treats, a cell phone and help arranging guiding). You will love your stay here!
